REALITY CHECK
THE OVERVIEW
By Richard Gore & Sherry Stearn

Reality Check is a story of America and the world in the year 2099.

Years after the popular uprising known as the Credit Rebellion of 2043, the majority of citizens are poor and at the mercy of the elite majority and the virtually boundless scrutiny of government agencies like Unified Intelligence Command (UIC). Changes in the Earth's climate have caused widespread flooding of inland areas, as coastal areas are slowly swallowed by the sea.

As the poor get closer to despair, the rich become further isolated with their reality-altering toys. People have lost the ability to relate or even care, because the need for face-to-face communication is long gone, and what is real is simply what can be conjured up with a computer program.

A joint venture of the government and NeOx Corporation plans to distribute NeOx, a free food, to the masses to ease the suffering, and also as a method of crowd control.

But, unknown to the government and the people, NeOx actually represents the efforts of a dying planet (Silmar) in another galaxy to gain control of the only place where Silmarians can survive: Earth.

A large and wealthy cult (SES) that has purchased Yosemite National Park and lives in it as its home, knows of the danger posed by NeOx, and by the increasing control over the minds and souls of the citizenry as practiced by organizations like UIC and the media. The SES preaches the development of the mind, heart, and man's natural psychic instincts as the only way to avoid the scrutiny and tyranny of technology.

The leaders of UIC, not knowing of NeOx's connection to the Silmarians, want to crush the SES before NeOx's debut.

DEVON MALONE, a security systems installer at UIC, is thrown into a seemingly impossible situation: He must save the SES, which is in part run by a dear friend (Tahni); break up the impending marriage of the daughter of UIC's director (Crystal, with whom he's in love) to NeOx's pointman (Rafael Nutrone); pull the plug on the systems that have sapped everyone's privacy and hope; save the world from NeOx and the subsequent Silmarian invasion; all while being pursued by agents from UIC, Crystal's jealous and murderous fiancée, and a rocket-borne army of angry Silmarian hitmen. It must all be accomplished in a few short days, in a world where REALITY can be completely changed with a few stokes on a keypad.
